Apixathin 5 – Apixaban 5mg tablet Description:
Apixathin 5 – Apixaban 5mg tablet, is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that helps prevent and treat blood clots. It works by blocking Factor Xa, an important clotting factor in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of clot formation.
Apixathin 5 – Apixaban 5mg tablet Uses:
Apixathin 5 – Apixaban 5mg tablet is commonly used in the treatment of following indications,
- Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat)
- Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE)
- Prevention of recurrent DVT and PE
- Prevention of blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery
Side Effects:
Apixaban may increase the risk of bleeding because it reduces the blood’s ability to clot.
Common Side Effects:
- Easy bruising
- Nosebleeds
- Minor bleeding (such as bleeding gums)
- Nausea
- Anemia (low red blood cell count)
- Swelling or hematoma (collection of blood under the skin)
Serious Side Effects :
- Severe or uncontrolled bleeding
- Blood in urine or stools
- Vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
- Severe dizziness or weakness
- Sudden severe headache
- Signs of stroke (difficulty speaking, weakness on one side of the body)
- Allergic reactions such as rash, swelling of the face, lips, or throat

Dosage:
The recommended dosage of Apixathin 5 – Apixaban 5mg tablet is,
- Atrial Fibrillation (Stroke Prevention):
- 5 mg twice daily is the standard dose for most patients.
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE):
- 10 mg twice daily for the first 7 days, followed by 5 mg twice daily.
- Prevention of Recurrent DVT/PE:
- 5 mg twice daily after completing at least 6 months of treatment.
Important Warning:
Do not stop taking Apixaban without consulting your doctor, as stopping suddenly may increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, DVT, or PE.
It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider or pharmacist when taking Apixaban. Taking more than the recommended dose of Apixaban can increase the risk of side effects and may not improve the effectiveness of the medication. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.
