Epag 50 – Eltrombopag 50mg Tablet Description:

Epag 50 – Eltrombopag 50mg Tablet is an oral thrombopoietin receptor agonist. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce more platelets by activating the thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor. It is commonly used in patients with low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia).

Epag 50 – Eltrombopag 50mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) – used in the patients who have  not responded for the treatment with Immunoglobulins, Corticosteroids or Splenectomy.
• Severe Aplastic Anemia – to improve platelet production
• Chronic Hepatitis C–associated thrombocytopenia – to allow initiation and maintenance of interferon-based therapy

Side Effects:

 Common Side Effects:

• Headache
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Fatigue
• Loss of appetite
• Muscle or joint pain
• Upper respiratory tract infections

Serious Side Effects :

• Liver toxicity (elevated liver enzymes, risk of liver damage)
• Blood clots (thromboembolism)
• Bone marrow fibrosis with long-term use
• Cataracts
• Severe allergic reactions (rare)

Dosage:

 Dosage depends on the medical condition, age, ethnicity, and platelet response.

• Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP):
  • Starting dose: 50 mg once daily
  • For East Asian patients: 25 mg once daily
  • Dose adjusted based on platelet count (maximum usually 75 mg/day)
• Aplastic Anemia:
  • Typically starts at 50 mg once daily, may be increased gradually under medical supervision

Administration Tip:
Take Eltrombopag on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after foods containing calcium, iron, magnesium, aluminum, or zinc (like dairy or supplements).

It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider or pharmacist when taking Eltrombopag. Taking more than the recommended dose of Eltrombopag can increase the risk of side effects and may not improve the effectiveness of the medication. Take Eltrombopag in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.
